Starting 2015 Off Right

Belize

Ambergris Caye, BelizeFriends, have you been wondering where we are? (It’s a little embarrassing that our Merry Christmas post has been up for two months now.) Well, at the last minute we decided to start 2015 off right with a trip to Belize for 3 weeks. Needless to say, it was wonderful. The food, the weather, the people and the Caribbean Sea all made for a truly relaxing time. We spent 8 days on Ambergris Caye where we stuffed ourselves with lobster burritos, read like crazy, bombed around on our golf cart and did some of the best snorkeling of our lives. The island has our heart and we hope to be back again soon.

Next we went inland to the jungle for a few nights in San Ignacio. From there we headed to Tikal in Guatemal for the day where we marveled at the ruins, the beautiful jungle and the creepy sound of howler monkeys. The following day we toured the Actun Tunichil Muknal caves which was an experience of a lifetime. I’m so glad I got over my fear of small spaces and adventured into the cave to see the living museum of a Mayan ceremonial site.

Our last stop was Placencia where we swam 5 times a day in the Caribbean, had our daily breakfast and lunch from a taco stand (so delicious) and generally flaked out.

It was wonderful starting the year off by getting away and recharging our batteries. We’ve been going full bore since we’ve gotten home and are so grateful that we had those few weeks to just be. We hope that you all take some time to do the same.
