Alayne & Daragh’s Seasons in the Park Wedding

We had a fabulous day with the lovely Alayne & Daragh and their wonderful family and friends on their wedding day. Alayne & Daragh’s love story is a delightful and romantic one. Alayne met Daragh when she was traveling and working in London. When her UK working holiday visa was up she came home to Vancouver and the two lost touch. Daragh managed to track Alayne down when a friend suggested he look for her on Facebook and the rest is history! Their ceremony was at the beautiful St. Augustine’s Church in Kitsilano. Alayne & Daragh had their reception at the Seasons in the Park Restaurant which was a perfect venue to show off the beauty of Vancouver to Daragh’s family and friends who flew in from Ireland and England, and the food is crazy delicious there too!

Alayne’s sister and Daragh’s brother started to walk down the aisle before the service was over. It was really cute…

… and funny as you can see from Alayne’s giggles.

Daragh and his groomsmen suits were custom made and had their initials stitched on the inside pocket and (being Irish) green lining in their jackets.

Cocktail hour was lovely out on the deck with the gorgeous views overlooking Vancouver.

I loved Daragh’s mom’s fascinator.

The speeches were so fun, filled with love and gentle ribbing.

Alayne’s sisters read out the email she sent to them when she first met Daragh, which was hilarious.

Alayne & Daragh asked the guests to sing a song in order for them to kiss. The staff at the Seasons in the Park were having so much fun with the guests that they got up and sang for Alayne and Daragh too!

It was a beautiful summer evening.

Alayne & Daragh had their first dance just as the fireworks for the Celebration of Light started to go off in the distance. It was magical.

Courtney & Chris’ Stanley Park Wedding

Courtney & Chris had such a special day. We were really looking forward to their wedding, to see these two lovely opposites be married. We always feel so honoured to do the work that we do, and it makes it even more special for us when we are able to photograph friends tying the knot. Their wedding was on a wet and soggy day this August however as Courtney put it, it didn’t rain on her parade. The Stanley Park Pavilion was overflowing with love for these two. I have to admit that I did let out a little tiny sob and choked back tears of joy when Courtney walked down the aisle. Chris was bursting with emotion during the ceremony and Courtney kept on trying to make him giggle which was so sweet to see. The reception was wonderful in the beautiful and charming ballroom at the Pavilion. All in all it was an unforgettable day.

Chris was getting ready in the hotel room where he and Courtney were going to spend their wedding night. Being the lovely man that he is, he had bought roses and put them all around the room.

Chris’ groomsmen were so much fun.

Their cake topper was adorable. It even had a little sign saying “no hunting” which was so funny. Courtney is a vegetarian and Chris likes to go hunting. It is true that opposites do attract and go so well together.

Julie, Courtney’s sister, and my fellow Queen of Buttons, made buttons for every table instead of using table numbers.

There were some tears and lots of giggles.

Daniela & Farzad’s Wedding Part II

The second day of Daniela & Farzad’s wedding was so fun and filled with joy. We are always saying how lucky we are to have such amazing clients and Daniela & Farzad are no exception. They are both crazy cute and absolutely adorable. They had their western wedding ceremony at one of our favourite venues, the Celebration Pavilion in Queen Elizabeth Park. After taking pictures in the park we headed to Granville Island for more wedding portraits before their reception at the Performance Works. Instead of using table numbers at their reception each table was a different character from Daniela’s favourite show, Arrested Development. We’ve started watching the show since Daniela & Farzad’s wedding and my goodness it is HILARIOUS! Watching the show has given us a new appreciation for Daniela & Farzad and their awesome sense of humour. It is probably a good thing that Roger hadn’t seen the show before the wedding, or else he would have been tempted to show up dressed as Tobias in his never-nude outfit! And you know what? I bet you Daniela & Farzad would have found it really funny – that is how great these two are.

When we were in the midst of doing portraits with Daniela & Farzad, this fellow walked by in his karate outfit. Daniela was so excited to see him and asked him to take a picture with them showing off their karate moves. It was hilarious.

The wedding party danced their way into the reception to “Kung Fu Fighting”.

The guests had to pop a balloon (but of course not the Hello Kitty one!) and answer the question inside before their table could get up to the buffet.

The questions the guests had to answer came from the game Cranium so they had to do some hilarious things for their dinner.

During dinner Daniela & Farzad went around to each table to greet their guests. When they arrived at our table they wanted a cheesy peace picture with Roger. So cute. (I know I keep saying that but it’s true!)

Daniela’s bridesmaid, Hennie, is a dance instructor, so she did a little dance class for all the guests after Daniela & Farzad’s first dance.

It was a great way to get everyone up dancing.

Daniela & Farzad’s Wedding Part I

We were so very lucky to get to spend two fabulous days with the absolutely lovely and adorable, Daniela & Farzad. On a Sunday afternoon we went to Farzad’s family home for their Persian wedding ceremony. We were really excited as it was our first time witnessing a Persian ceremony. Of the many things we love about the work we do, we always enjoy experiencing a culture that is new to us and their way of marrying a couple. There was so much beautiful symbolism in the ceremony, all to help Daniela & Farzad start their new life together.

Kate & Neal’s Stanley Park Wedding

Kate & Neal’s lovely wedding was on a beautiful sunny Wednesday afternoon in August. Kate & Neal are originally from Ireland so they had their wedding in Stanley Park, a perfect location to showcase Vancouver to their out of town guests. Their ceremony was at the Chapel in Stanley Park with the always great Reverend Allan. It is always a treat to work with him and see how he puts everyone at ease. After the ceremony all the guests walked over to the Stanley Park Rowing Club where they had champagne, hors d’oeuvres and speeches on the gorgeous deck before heading to the Trophy Room for dinner.

Thank you, Kate & Neal, for having us along for part of your wedding day. We had such a nice time with you and your guests. Congratulations!

Crystal & Richard’s Sun Yut Sen Wedding

On Tuesday afternoon last week we received a phone call from Crystal inquiring about our photography rates. When I asked her when her wedding day was and she answered “Tomorrow!”, I almost fell over! I couldn’t help but giggle! Crystal and Richard came by the studio Tuesday afternoon and booked us for their elopement on Wednesday afternoon! It was amazing to see how they managed to pull the wedding together in just 2 days, with musicians, flowers, tuxedos, a white dress, rings and us! Crystal & Richard had their ceremony at the Sun Yut Sen Garden in China Town. We had never been inside the garden before and we were blown away at how pretty it is in there! After the ceremony we took Crystal & Richard to Gastown for some portraits. It was a whirlwind couple of hours and soo much fun for us to work with this lovely couple who just couldn’t wait! Congratulations Crystal & Richard!

Gabi & Mike’s Wedding

Gabi and Mike had an intimate and lovely wedding with their ceremony at Ferguson Point in Stanley Park and their reception at the Tea House. Their families live all over the world so it meant so much to Gabi and Mike to have their families together and in a spot that truly says Vancouver. Thankfully the weather was absolutely gorgeous. Everything came together so nicely for their wedding with the help of their fabulous planner, Briar from Epic Events. We had such a great day with Gabi & Mike. We laughed and I cried (tears of joy of course!) with such a wonderful couple. Congratulations, Gabi & Mike! Thank you so much for having us be a part of such a special day.

When we arrived at Ferguson Point where the ceremony was being held, we were greeted by Gabi’s adorable niece and flower girl, Helene. She was proudly showing off her new bling.

Briar from Epic Events was also there and grabbed a bobby pin from her own hair to fix Gabi’s veil! Now that is dedication to your clients! (Of course Briar changed into a lovely dress when her work setting up was done!)

Married! WAHOOO!!!

Roger was doing push ups and crazy voices to get the girls to giggle in the family photo. I love how the little one is looking at Roger like he is nuts.

Helene, the flower girl, kept on getting in all the group photos. I think she thought all the photos were for her after we did a family photo shoot with her the week before. It was really cute.

Time for champagne!

Helene was having a ball playing in Gabi’s veil.

Gabi & Mike sent Vancouver postcards as their invitations and asked their guests to RSVP with a postcard from their home town. Such a lovely idea!

They had local organic jam made for their guests. Yummmm!!!

First Gabi & Mike danced with their parents.

Then they danced together with the usual first dance until….

… the record scratched and they surprised their guests as they busted a move with their first dance choreographed by Clear the Floor. It was fantastic!!

It really helped get the party going. Everyone was having a terrible time! : )

Angela & Alex’s Wedding

Angela & Alex had a wonderful wedding with their ceremony at St. Ignatius’ Chapel at UBC and their reception at the always elegant and lovely Vancouver Club. The weather was gorgeous on their wedding day which beat the unusually cold weather we have had this June. I loved how Angela’s mom called it Juneuary! After the ceremony we took Angela & Alex and their wedding party around the UBC campus for photos. Then we headed downtown to the Vancouver Club for a cocktail reception and delectable dinner. We really enjoyed working with such a kind couple and their charming friends and family. Thank you, Angela & Alex, for such a great day. We wish you a life together filled with joy.

Vivian and Phil’s Wedding

On the May long weekend our dear friends, Vivian and Phil, were married at Brock House Restaurant with it’s beautiful Vancouver views of mountains and ocean. It was a fantastic day with lots of laughter, tears of joy and celebration for such an incredible couple. Phil is an officer in the Canadian Army and he ended up on tour of duty in Afghanistan during their engagement and he just got home 10 days before their wedding. Vivian did an incredible job planning the wedding while Phil was gone. We love how most of her details were handmade by her friends or by some of the amazing Etsy sellers. As always, the fabulous boys at Flowerz did a fantastic job with Vivian and Phil’s flowers. We had a ball photographing the wedding with our friend, Ian, from Pure Souls Photography. Everyone had a great time that we didn’t want to end at Vivian and Phil’s wedding. Congratulations you two! We wish you a lifetime of happiness together.

Tetie and Miguel’s Wedding

Tetie and Miguel had a wonderful wedding with their ceremony at the beautiful Queen Elizabeth Celebration Pavilion and their reception at the elegant Fairmont Waterfront Hotel. The day was filled with heart-felt emotions with lots of giggles and some tears. We truly had a great day with Tetie and Miguel and their lovely family and friends.

It was a pleasure for us to work again with Erik and his crew from Love Story Media. Erik did a same day edit of Tetie and Miguel’s wedding which they showed at the reception. Erik gave us a sneak peak before we left for the night and we were blown away. Here is the link to the video on Erik’s blog.
