One of the highlights of our trip to Switzerland was the afternoon and evening we spent hanging out with all of the Mahler family. Roger hadn’t seen his Grandma, his aunt, his uncles and his cousins in 9 years so it was long overdue. It was an emotional day for the both of us. There is something special about being enclosed by family. With Roger’s family in Switzerland and mine in Toronto, we don’t get to be surrounded by so many family members very often. Roger’s Grandma is so so adorable, she reminded me so much of my own Grandma who passed away a while ago now. Roger’s Aunt Vrenie and her husband Peter hosted all of us in their backyard. They live in this gorgeous old Swiss country house with an attached barn. It was a chilly day so we spent most of our time hanging out in the little room where the pigs used to live. I so enjoyed finally getting to meet all of Roger’s family members that I had heard so much about. I wish I spoke Swiss German so that I could communicate with everyone without Roger translating but still, I believe there is a way to connect without words. The Mahlers are a lively, fun and crazy bunch. We are going to savour the memories and the photos from that day for quite some time. We hope we will get see each other again sooner rather than later.
